Meet This Week's Leader: Amy Osborne, Regional Continuous Improvement Manager, Premier Truck Group
"Be Kind. Kindness is something anyone can give without losing anything themselves.”
What attracted you to the trucking industry?
I was initially hesitant when I heard the position was for a trucking company, but I realized the facility had a lot of amazing people.
What was your first job in the trucking industry?
My first job was as a Service Administrator. I started out doing a lot of the reporting for the service manager, monitoring productivity and efficiencies, completing trend analysis on comebacks, managed technician training and HR duties such as payroll.
What part of your job do you find most satisfying?
I love the training and development aspect. It is very fulfilling to see others grow and develop their skills. I find satisfaction in helping others understand complex situations or master new abilities, which can lead to a sense of pride and accomplishment. Overall, the ability to positively impact others through teaching and training is a rewarding part of my job.
What is your proudest professional achievement?
Landing my current role is one of my proudest achievements. I have wanted this position for years and I came in at the perfect time. My boss has a leadership style that is supportive, encouraging, and inspiring. My coworkers are amazing, and I get to help form this role into more than I ever dreamed of it being.
What motivates you every morning?
My children are my motivation. They always have been. I want to make them proud. I want them to know that the combination of hard work and passion for what you do can result in earning a job that brings you joy and fulfillment, making each day an exciting opportunity to pursue your passion.
How have you overcome challenges in your career?
I used to be incredibly shy and self-conscious. I got the CIC job shortly after I started working at my facility which required me to host meetings and speak in front of management regularly. It was terrifying so I participated in a course that taught me a lot about managing my anxiety and it broke me out of my shell. Prior to that the thought of presenting in front of people was a nightmare, but I just spoke on a stage in front of 500 people in December and it went great.
