Today, we're excited to feature Sachiko Fukaya, Executive Assistant, Nicole Group/Japan, in this week's "Women in the Driver's Seat" spotlight.
What inspired you to pursue a career in the automotive industry?
I entered the automotive industry by chance. I was looking for an executive assistant position and luckily joined the Nicole Group in Japan. Today, I can learn a high level of customer service and hospitality from our team since we are a luxury automotive group.
What part of your job do you find most satisfying?
I am very satisfied and pleased with the various opportunities that allow me to try out new things. For example, I am involved in the rollout of Nicole’s new culture and MVV (mission, vision, values). I am even shooting and editing management members’ interview videos. I had to learn new things, but it is very rewarding because it leads to personal growth.
What motivates you every morning?
The words of Steve Jobs, “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” It helps me to think positively about what I am to do today and reminds me to not waste any of my time.
What has been one of the most rewarding moments in your career?
The most rewarding moment in my career is when I can make an important event successful for our team. It’s encouraging when members from other departments join and support each other. I find great satisfaction in collaborating with my colleagues.
How do you feel women have made a unique contribution to the automotive industry?
Women have a great and often unique contribution throughout all areas of our company. A great example is our attention to customer service. Our female service advisors have a strong and trusting relationship with many of our customers. The customers appreciate their empathy, friendliness, and kindness.
Can you share a lesson or insight you’ve gained during your career journey?
Every experience is valuable. All of our experiences and skills help us in the future. Many of my past experiences have been helpful with my current position, especially with communication and working in teams.
What is your favorite motto or quote?
Live life with no regrets. When I make an important decision in my life, I always choose what I want to do from the bottom of my heart.
What advice would you give to other women aspiring to pursue a career in the automotive industry?
I would encourage them to give it a try. The number of women working in the automotive industry is still small in Japan. Being a minority has not always been easy, but on the other hand there are so many areas where women can play a successful role.
What hobbies do you enjoy?
One of my favorite hobbies is visiting Japanese shrines and temples. One of my favorite shrines is Meiji Shrine which is very popular with foreign tourists. Although it is located in central Tokyo, this shrine is surrounded by deep forest. I am always refreshed whenever I visit.
