This week in our Women in the Driver’s Seat series, we’re proud to spotlight Danielle Martin,
Senior Marketing Manager - Penske Automotive Group
How long have you been in the automotive industry?
I have worked in the automotive industry for 20 years.
Can you share a few sentences about your career journey in the automotive industry?
I was a stay-at-home mom for about 10 years. When my kids started school, I decided to go back to work. A family friend, who was a general manager at a dealership, gave me a job answering service calls in the BDC. I made it my mission to learn everything about the business and quickly advanced through the internet department, eventually becoming the Ecommerce Manager for one of the top BMW stores in the country.
What do you enjoy most about working in the automotive industry?
The industry is dynamic, fast-paced, and full of innovation. One of the most enjoyable aspects is how it constantly evolves and adapts. There are always advancements in technology, design, and function. The industry is full of passion—so many enthusiasts truly love cars, technology, design, and performance. I love being part of an industry that is always advancing and never standing still.
Can you describe a key initiative or project you’ve led or contributed to that made a meaningful impact on the business?
In 2021, I had the opportunity to join the West marketing team as the Senior Marketing Manager for the region. I led a team of true experts who provided valuable marketing insights and intentional strategies to all the stores in the region. I was able to build and develop a team who are truly trusted advisors to the General Managers for all marketing strategies.
What are your standout strengths?
My standout strengths are strategic thinking and the ability to align marketing with broader business goals. As a leader, I strive to motivate my team to excel in every aspect of our responsibilities, lead by example, and provide support, guidance, development, and mentorship.
What are your favorite hobbies or interests?
My favorite hobby is practicing yoga. My sister is a yoga instructor, and I’ve practiced with her for many years. Yoga is time I dedicate entirely to myself—where no one can reach me. It grounds me and provides the balance I need to succeed in my day-to-day life. I’m also passionate about fashion and shopping. Much like the automotive industry, fashion is always evolving, and I love seeing new trends emerge each year.
What motivates you each day?
My family is my true motivation and has been a constant source of support throughout my career. As a single mom of three, I would not have come this far in the automotive industry without their encouragement and love.
What advice would you give to other women considering a career in the automotive industry?
The automotive industry is traditionally male-dominated and comes with its challenges, but it can also be extremely rewarding. My best advice is to be confident and know your worth. No matter what department you work in, your skills, knowledge, and expertise matter. Seek out female mentors who will recognize your talents, support you, and help you reach your potential. Stay resilient—there will be challenges along the way, but perseverance and skill will always prove your value.
